Zagreb Runners

Zagreb, Croatia

Crew at a Glance

Zagreb Runners (ZGBR) are a notable and influential running group that has been at the center of Zagreb's running community since April 5, 2015. What started as a Nike Run Club has grown into a close-knit group of about 40 members who take pride in being a "crew, not a club." They are characterized by their inclusive attitude, fun-loving spirit, and active schedule of regular and special events, including a monthly midnight run. Most importantly, they play a key role in the 442 Crew, a strong cross-border partnership with the Belgrade Urban Running Team.

Zagreb Runners: Building Bridges and Community in Croatia's Capital

In the lively capital of Croatia, a running group was founded on April 5, 2015, by four friends: Sven, Domi, Mia, and Neven. Zagreb Runners began as a Nike Run Club but quickly grew into something more—a close-knit community of city runners who share a strong passion for running, friendship, and their city. Their inspiring journey demonstrates how running can bring people together and create lasting bonds.

A Philosophy of Friendship Over Finish Times

At its core, Zagreb Runners is a group that values community and shared experiences more than competition. They welcome runners of all skill levels, from experienced marathoners to beginners, forming a diverse team united by a love of running. While they organize structured workouts for those who want to push themselves, participation is never mandatory. The focus is on the journey together, which is why it is a tradition for the group to gather and bond over a well-earned beer or meal after the workout.

The Zagreb Runners community is a powerful force for good, both locally and internationally. They are known for their energetic cheer zones at local races, where you can see them holding signs, megaphones, and confetti to create an electrifying atmosphere of encouragement. Their most significant collaboration, however, is the 442 Crew, a joint effort with the Belgrade Urban Running Team from Serbia. As part of the global Bridge the Gap movement, this project uses running to move past conflicts and fight nationalism, building connections and friendships across borders.

A Packed Schedule of Runs and Adventures

The culture of ZGBR is lively, social, and full of adventure. The crew hosts regular runs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, keeping things exciting by switching between iconic spots like the beautiful Maksimir Park, the scenic Sava riverbank, the peaceful Jarun Lake, and the Svetice running track. Besides their regular runs, they are known for their exciting special events. One notable tradition is the "Midnight in Zagreb" run, held on the last Thursday of every month, offering a thrilling experience of the city streets under the moonlight. The crew also occasionally organizes a fun and challenging "beer mile."

Zagreb Runners warmly invite everyone in the city, from experienced marathoners to beginners, to join their community. Their inclusive and encouraging environment is the ideal place to find your rhythm, push your limits, and build lifelong friendships. Interested individuals are encouraged to reach out through their official social media channels.

The city of Zagreb is the vibrant capital of Croatia, known for its stunning Austro-Hungarian architecture, its lively cafe culture, and its beautiful parks and green spaces. This blend of historic charm and natural beauty provides the perfect backdrop for a running adventure. The city's running calendar is filled with exciting events. For those seeking the ultimate challenge, the Zagreb Marathon is a must. Other favorite local events include the Medvedrun, named after the city's mascot, and the unique Hendrix Run, which celebrates the iconic musician.
