Palembang Runners: The Community Hub Energizing a City

In February 2016, the story of Palembang Runners started with a simple idea. It began with a group of young people who gathered to run, and they decided to form a community to share this passion with friends and residents of their city. From this humble and open-hearted beginning, they have grown into a major force promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in the historic capital of South Sumatra.

The philosophy of Palembang Runners is to be a community that fosters the joy of running for everyone. They were established to provide a space for friends who enjoy the sport to gather, and this welcoming spirit has remained their core value. They believe in the power of a group to motivate and inspire, and they have successfully created an environment where people from all backgrounds can share their passion for running.

The Palembang Runners community demonstrates their success. They have become a central fitness hub in their city and are recognized as an important part of the national running scene through their affiliation with IndoRunners, a network of running communities across Indonesia. They are also an official community partner of Pocari Sport, a major sports drink brand, which further confirms their established and respected status.

A Packed Week of Running

The culture of Palembang Runners is active, organized, and diverse, with a weekly schedule that offers something for all types of runners. Their training week includes an intense interval session on Wednesday afternoons at 4:30 p.m. at the Governor's office complex (Gubernuran), ideal for building speed. For endurance, they host a long run on Saturday mornings at 5:30 a.m. from the popular Kambang Iwak Park. To finish the week, they have a social fun run on Sunday mornings at 6:00 a.m., uniting the entire community.

An Invitation to Join the Movement

As a free and open community, Palembang Runners warmly welcomes everyone in the city to join their sessions. Whether you're looking to boost your speed with their interval training or simply want to enjoy a relaxed, fun run, there's a spot for you. To become part of this passionate group, we encourage you to connect with them through their official social media channels.

The city of Palembang is one of Indonesia's oldest cities and was the historic capital of the ancient Srivijaya empire. Located on the banks of the mighty Musi River, this lively port city provides a unique and historic backdrop for a run. The city's character is highlighted by its impressive landmarks, such as the beautiful Ampera Bridge, and its vibrant atmosphere.

The running routes in Palembang highlight the city's top features. A favorite spot for the crew is Kambang Iwak Park, a historic, family-friendly park with a large lake that serves as a central hub for the city's recreational activities. Their runs also explore the area around the historic Kuto Besak Fortress, a riverfront fortification, and of course, the city's main racing event is the Musi Run, which often takes participants across the iconic Ampera Bridge.
